The Grey Eminence was talked about by Bernhard Roetzel in his excellent book, Gentlemen, a timeless fashion, he made the observation that if grey trousers were to disappear then sports coat and blazer sales worldwide would stop overnight, I think that he was exagerating slightly, but nevertheless he's right in his praise for the grey trouser as it does go better with just about every tailored jacket.

Today it is perfectly acceptable to wear a pair of nice dress trousers to work, with or without a jacket, this does however mean that the trousers have to be well cut and fit well as they are the focal point of your outfit. In the warmer months why not wear an open necked shirt and some smart peach finished cotton's to work rather than wool or a wool blend? Paired with a blue shirt and an optional tie, it's a very smart and comfortable summer business outfit and also looks good if you're going out straight from work in the evening.
